Good morning ladies and gentlemen. I'd like to welcome you to the national launch of Jack Higgins latest novel, The Eagle Has Landed. Like every other novel that Higgins has released it has captured our imaginations, thoughts and feelings. This novel is bound to be another bestseller. By basing the story on documented historical fact and by allowing the full range of his imagination and narrative gifts to supply the details, Higgins has written one of the most absorbing and compelling stories of World War 2.

Full time excitement best describes this novel. The story is set in the heat of the action of World War 2 when Winston Churchill was leading the allies on their offensive and the Nazis were struggling to reply to the strength. The story's setting changes throughout the novel. It begins in Germany and ends in the south of England were most of the action takes place. The story is set out into two major parts. Firstly there is the careful preparation of the mission and then there is the actual execution of the mission where an elite commandos group attempt try to elude the inhabitants of the small village into believing that the invaders were in fact just a lost squadron of polish troops. Their mission once in the village is t

o assassinate Winston Churchill. Though all plans are washed away when an unscheduled events turn this peaceful village into a World War 2 battlefield. From hear on it's the Germans fight for survival deep in the heart of England. Against the odds they still attempt to accomplish their mission objectives. The plot is anything but dull; in fact it is a plot that keeps your attention from start to finish.

In my personal opinion this has been not only one of the best war novels I have ever read but also one of the best novels written ever. The reader to comes to like the Germans by the end of the novel, which is unusual for a World War 2 novel. The Eagle Has Landed is a first class novel packed with action and atmosphere. This novel will change the way you view the Germans of that era. After reading The Eagle Has Landed I'm convinced that Jack Higgins is one of the best Authors of our time. Congratulations!

Higgins has told this novel in a very effective style that is quite different to other novels. The first chapter is told from Higgins point of view as he does the research for the novel and uncovers a mystery in the town where the action took place. The first chapter leaves us with plenty of questions in our mind that have built up over that short period. The reader cannot resist reading on to find answers. From here on the story is then told in 3rd person.
