The Catholic Church of Frank McCourt presented in Angela's Ashes played a key role in the way Frankie and also the way the whole society functioned. The members were dependent on charity, direction, and a sense of understanding. These factors alone allowed the Church to limit the experiences of its members, but also allowed them to protect and nurture its members. This high complexity of Frankie's religion was confusing for him because his elders kept him ignorant of key knowledge.
