After school Darwin became naturalist on board the royal navy ship the Beagle. The Beagle left England on December 27, 1831 this was a small ship with a crew of 74, Darwin had a small laboratory and a hammock to sleep on, he suffered bad seasickness. Darwin's job aboard the Beagle allowed him to study on many different continents. He found the remains of giant rodents and many different types of finches. It is likely that stories in the bible were created to teach ignorant people a lesson in a simple way. If a man wanted to teach his son something and just said do not steal the message might not get through. If the boy was told about someone who stole and how there sole turned evil than it is more likely that the warning would be heeded.

Parts of the Bible were originally stories passed orally, people might have just made up the Bible. Perhaps the storys of the Bible were origanaly made up to teach a lesson but over time people forgot they were just stories. However many of the events depicted in the Bible are well documented from reliable sources. If science can prove parts of the Bible it does not mean the whole thing is false.

Darwin noticed that most species could reproduce very quickly, they could double there population but did not. He also noticed that many species had become extinct but did not know why. The reason he believed was that species adapted to better suit there surrounding, those that were better suited lived and those that were not well suited to there environment died. Darwin alleged that sometimes a creature was born that was different from the rest, a mutant, a creature that had somehow had its DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) changed. If these traits that it possesses that made it different were useful than that creature may reproduce more than normal. Of course in Darwin's day DNA had not been discovered but it was known that traits were passed to offspring. Natural selection is when the organisms with good traits survive the trials of nature. Artificial selection is what breeders do, the cow that gives more milk, or the plant that produces larger fruit are selected to be reproduced. Encyclopedia Encarta defines natural selection as "the process by which environmental effects lead to varying degrees of reproductive success among individuals of a population of organisms with different hereditary characters, or traits. The characters that inhibit reproductive success decrease in frequency from generation to generation. The resulting increase in the proportion of reproductively successful individuals usually enhances the adaptation of the population to its environment"
