The business world has offered to us both complicated and unique insight to every day management. Some of these theories are new and innovative while others may be somewhat out dated. There are several different theories that coarse through the veins of today's supervisors. Men and women alike lead their businesses through the good times and pull them out of the trenches during the bad times. They learn these techniques by on the job training, schooling, and mentors that were successful in their endeavors. The right way to manage is something that can elude even the biggest corporation and the brightest MBAs.

I have had the opportunity to work in several different environments and deal with diverse styles of organization. Mintzberg (1989) discusses some of these styles: entrepreneurial, machine, innovative, and diversified in his book, Mintzberg on Management. In describing entrepreneurial organizations, he talks about managers having a direct working relationship with members at all levels. Members in this type of organization are given lead way that often includes responsibilities such as, purchasing and productivity at their own discretion. Henry Bloc

When they tell us what needs to be done in their location, they're usually right" (Walton, 1983, p. 51). This type of insight has made H&R Block a very successful corporation.

Health Care System, results and people power us as a public service institution. Entrepreneuring is not a concept that someone would generally associate with this type of organization. However, with the constant rise in cost of patient care and the demand for technical advances, we must strive to create a work place that is full of goal seekers. The results that we want include the return of current patients and the desire to treat new patients. Without having employees that want to do a good job and who are constantly seeking a better way, we will fail. A public service institution defines success by having a larger budget next year.
