Glass Menagerie

The gentleman caller in Tennessee William's "The Glass Menagerie" does represent the hopes and dreams of all we wish for. As Amanda wished for a gentleman caller for Laura, Laura also wished for a gentleman caller to provide her with an escape from her current life. Laura was not desperately trying to get away from her situation like Tom was, however Laura wanted to. That is why hopes and dreams are so wonderful, they give us a sense of fantasy, and we are able to escape our present situations. However, it is also important to keep our feet on the ground, keep some semblance of reality. That way, one does not become too distraught when some dreams do not come true.

It is normal and healthy for people to have hopes, and to believe in their dreams. As a young girl, I too had ideals of what my dream man would be like. Due to fairytales, movies, and stories one gets their hopes and dreams up. Hopefully one day, prince charming will arrive in our lives, galloping up on his
