Education is not a matter to be taken lightly. Some areas of our country are excelling while some are receding. It is not necessary for every state and city to have an identical education system but it is very important to make sure that schools are getting the appropriate funding and resources. The GOALS 2000 also calls for more qualified teachers by raising pay. This would have a tremendous effect because it is teachers who are giving the vital knowledge to children. It is also important to set standards so that an area of the country does not fall behind the rest. A poor education system leads to a poor population which leads to a poor area. If an area, or areas. were to seriously fall behind, it could develop into a "social sink" in which the entire area becomes askew. This has already been seen in some of the less beneficial areas. There is the argument that the area determines the school, but it is still the schools that determine the future. This is why government standard and aide is extremely useful to develop our nation.
