Le Morte D'Arthur
Le Morte d'Arthur is a novel full of visions and dreams that predict future occurrences. These dreams and visions are often interpreted by a hermit because the dreamer cannot determine the true significance of the dream or vision. Sir Launcelot often does not sleep well and dreams frequently. However, he does not interpret his dreams but relies completely on others to reveal their true meaning to him. Sir Launcelot has several important dreams and visions during his quest for the Holy Grail. These dreams and visions come to reveal vital information to Sir Launcelot about his quest and about himself. He does not always listen to the information that is provided by these dreams and visions though. During his quest for the Holy Grail, Sir Launcelot comes upon a stone cross beside an old chapel. He attempts to enter the chapel in hopes of finding some company but he cannot enter. He sees a silver candlestick with six candles burning inside the chapel. Because he cannot enter the chapel and be in the light he decides to sleep outside. While Sir Launcelot is "between waking and sleeping he saw two white palfreys approach the cross" dragging a wounded knight on a "litter." The silver candlestick and six candles began to mov
Sir Launcelot came upon the waters of Morayse and felt that he needed to receive "divine guidance" so he decided to sleep. A voice came to him in his sleep and told him "arise now, arm yourself, and board the first ship that you see." When Sir Launcelot awoke he continued on and he found a ship and boarded it just like the voice told him to do. While he was on the ship he found his son Sir Galahad. One night the ship was blown ashore near a castle and a voice told Sir Launcelot to "leave your ship and enter the castle, where in part your prayers shall be granted." He did as he was told. He approached the castle and entered. He heard singing and knew that he had finally found the Holy Grail and prayed that he be forgiven for his sins and that he should be allowed to see the Grail. As he began to enter the room with the Grail the voice again spoke to him and told him that he should not enter. He stopped himself and looked in the room and saw the Holy Grail on a silver table covered with a red samite cloth. A priest was in front of the Grail giving a mass. Sir Launcelot walked toward the priest because he thought that someone was in need of help. As he approached the Holy Grail though "he felt himself suddenly burned by a fiery breath" and "he lost all sense of sight, hearing, and speech, and fell down in a swoon." Sir Launcelot fell into a coma for twenty-four days until he finally awoke. He believed that he was in the coma for twenty-four days because he had been sinful for twenty-four years. He was told that his "quest of the Holy Grail has come to an end" and that he "shall see it no more." Sir Launcelot started his quest for the Holy Grail and was determined to find it. He finally got a glimpse of the prize that he was searching fo
