I am comparing two different versions of Charles Dickens, "A Christmas Carol", the 1951 version staring Alistair Sim and the 2000 version staring Ross Kemp. Nowadays the Alistair Sim version will appeal to the older audience. The Ross Kemp version will appeal to a wider and more modern audience. The Alistair Sim version is set in London. The main setting is in Scrooge's house and in Scrooge's bedroom. This is the main setting because it is where the three spirits came and visited Scrooge and where Scrooge was after each spirit had gone. It is set on Christmas Eve and in Scrooge's opinion the day seemed to last forever. The other settings are in the workplace of Scrooge where Bob Cratchit was asking Scrooge for some time off work at Christmas, Bob Cratchit's house where his family was preparing Christmas dinner. Other settings include a pub and the street. The settings follow the novel almost perfectly. The Ross Kemp version is also set in London but on an estate that is considered "dangerous". The main setting as in the Alistair Sim version is in Scrooge's house or flat as is the case in the 2000 version. As in the 1951 version all three spirits visit Scrooge in his house.
