Christian History

There are no absolutes, no clear-cut black and white answers, no accurate gauge for justice - right and wrong - no real way to a world beyond physical death.

This is the thinking of our age, an age of confusion. People hunger for answers but find only more questions. Christians are unsure of their stands. No wonder. Not only are the thinkers of the day holding to a philosophy of absolutenihilism, the general rejection of customary beliefs in morality and religion, but Christianity has allowed over 3000 sects, many of which teach outright heresy as doctrine, under its umbrella. This type of environment only breeds confusion. The only thing that can give a guiding light amidst the whirlpool of unanswered questions is the truth. But what is the truth?

In this article I shall examine the very basics of Christianity - the foundation on which it stood in its earliest beginning and which it still standsupon today even amidst the turbulent greys that seek to muddy it.

Too many people want what Jesus offers but do not truly want who He is. It is not enough just to ask Jesus to be your Saviour; He must be your Lord as well. Saving is what Jesus does. Lord is who Jesus is.

The word "believe" in the Greek (the entire New Tes

When you reach out and touch someone physically by meeting his needs, listening to his hurts, fears and joys, giving yourself away to him, then you are being the most 'spiritual' you can be! When you touch the lives of people around you and love them, you are giving a witness that can hold its own! (See Matt. 25:31-46).

Another part of forgiveness is forgiving ourselves when we blow it! Don't condemn yourself for making a mistake. Just accept God's forgiveness, learn from your mistake, try to avoid it in the future with God's help, and keep on going.

2. We witness by the way we live. "But prove yourselves doers of the Word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves" (James 1:22). The unbeliever will watch to see if you're just all talk. The way you live your life (at home, work, school, etc.) shows the depth of your commitment to Christ. Remember, you may be the only Bible some people ever read. Put your life where your mouth is! "And whatever you do IN WORD OR DEED, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus..." (Col. 3:17). "Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth" (Matt. 2:39).

"Everyone therefore who shall confess Me before men, I will also confess before him before My Father who is in Heaven" (Matthew 10:32,33). If we do not point to Jesus with our words and lives, it stands to reason that He should not point to us. Fair is fair.

A friend of mine once answered the question like this: "What is more important for me to do: go down into town and pass out hundreds of tracts to everyone I see or wait on a street corner for the one person God said He would send my way?" The answer is obviously the second part - waiting IN OBEDIENCE for God's direction. Too often we run off and attempt to win the lost on our own power. This is wrong! Anyone who teaches that we alone are responsible for bringing in the harvest of lost souls to Christ presumes too much and puts man in the chair of God. This teacher has forgotten the power of the Holy Spirit.

Here are some reasons why we need a firm foundation in God's Word:

We are commanded as believers to witness for and about Jesus Christ and His goodness. If not for someone telling us of His forgiveness and grace, we would not, if we are indeed Christians, be following Jesus today.

We are forgiven for a great deal when we surrender to Jesus Christ and make Him Lord. By deciding to totally live for Jesus and turn away from our past life of sin (disobedience and rebellion toward God), we will have to build on our "foundation" of repentance. This means that God will show you areas that need to be turned from. Sometimes it may mean giving up certain habits like smoking, or it may mean dropping our boyfriend or girlfriend. Sure, these may be hard things to understand or do; but when God tells you to turn your back on something, it's ALWAYS for your best interest! The further we turn from our sins, the closer we turn to Jesus.

1. Witnessing is an art, one that every believer can and must master. Some have attempted to teach witnessing as something that tears against our mental and emotional grains. This is not true. Witnessing for a believer, should be as natural as the beating of his heart.
