Albert Einstein
Albert Einstein was born in Ulm, Germany, in 1879, and spent his youth in Munich, where his family owned a small shop that manufactured electric machinery. He finished high school in Switzerland, then entered the Swiss National Polytechnic in Zurich. He often cut classes and used the time to study physics or to play the violin. He graduated in 1900 and got a job in the Swiss patent office in 1902. In 1903 he married Mileva Maric, who had been a classmate of his at Polytechnic. They had two sons. Later they divorced and Einstein remarried. In 1905 Einstein received his doctorate from the University of Zurich, for a research paper on molecules.
