The Voice Message

A detailed Summary of The Voice Message

As I lay under my warm cotton flannel sheets that Sunday night, I pondered the reason why my cell phone had not rung the entire day. I had a strange premonition that something wasn't exactly right, so my instincts told me to investigate. I struggled getting out of the comfortable bed, but I managed to put on warmer clothes and head out my door. As I stepped out onto the patio, the gusty cold wind chilled my whole body. Dialing my voice- mail number, I heard "You have one new message."

From the first second I heard my best friend's voice I could tell she was disturbed and irate about something. Her frosty voice said, "Andrea, it's me. I have to tell you this right now while it's fresh in my mind. I had $150 in my room and $60.00 in my wallet, and neither one of them is there any more. The only people who were at my house were you and my family, so I'm going to believe my family over you. Andrea, I don't know who's more of a fool. Me for trusting you or you for thinking you could get away with this. Don't try to call me or my family because now everyone despises you, and I don't want to have anything to do with you anymore. Have a nice life."

At that very moment I felt my stomach churning and

Their warm hands rubbed and soothed my back and comforted me saying, "It's going to be okay." At that time I knew what I had to do. I grabbed my worst enemy at the time, my cell phone and called her home. I tried to speak as calmly as possible. "Is Andrea there,?" "No she's out," "Will you just tell her that Andrea Keyes called," "Sure thing, bye." I had to get out of my room with all of those girls, I just needed to escape and be alone. I ran to my car, rolled down the windows, and turned the radio on full blast. The highway was isolated as I headed to my favorite place, the beach. My eyes began to feel swollen, and the hard lump in my throat remained. I parked on the cliff, turned off my music and just listened to the roar of the crashing waves.

my knees weakening. I felt as though someone had just stabbed me in the heart. I couldn't believe what she had just said, and I went into a state of complete shock. I played the message again just to see if this was actual reality, and I wasn't just hallucinating. Salty tears streamed my face like a cascading waterfall. I fled back inside of my room and collapsed on my bed, shaking with hysteria and trying to gasp for some air. I felt as if someone was grabbing my neck and would not let me breathe. When my roommates began to hear my weeping and gasping for air, they ran hysterically to my side and asked what was wrong. I attempted to try to talk, but I couldn't; I was speechless. Finally the words slowly began to pour out my mouth as my tears continued to flow; I choked out "My best friend Andrea, practically my sister, just accused me of stealing money from her."

As soon as I got back to my room, I got under the covers and just sobbed myself to sleep. My alarm clock shrilled at 8:30 a.m., and I jumped out of bed, feeling really refreshed until my roommate inquired
