Connections between 3 stories

Are there any connections between the past three stories we read? The stories are "To Build A Fire", "A White Heron", and "The Shipping News". They fix the house up and Quoyle gets a steady job. He also begins making friends, and even find a love interest. At the end of the book, Quoyle gets married, and all is well for him and the rest of Killick-Claw.
