Secret to not gettign stuck
"For the love of the game." Athletes at the top of there sport will always tell you they are not playing for the money, the fans, the cars, the publicity, the women but merely because they love to do what they are doing. This phrase, "for the love of the game," is one, which does not always apply to sports stars. Our greatest politicians, doctors, stock traders, teachers, policemen and religious leaders are all great at what they do because they love to be doing it. It is the drive of the runner to wake up at five in the morning so they can run three miles before the rest of the world awakes. It is the joy that a basketball player gets from going to practice an hour early and leaving an hour late. It is the feeling that a writer gets after writing an amazing sentence; a thrill for a politician after a great speech or an emotion for a composer after their opus has finally been played. The way a mother or father looks at their child when they are sleeping or the excitement a teacher gets when they read the paper from that one student who finally got it. Those who love "the game" love it for what they do - they love life. But life can be hard -very hard. Small pebbles may fall in your path an occasionally a huge bolder rule
In "The Secret to Not Getting Stuck" the protagonist, Del, is a wrestler - a very good wrestler. We learn about his overriding drive to wrestle. Del loves the game and never gives up. He always is working - getting better -trying harder. In wrestling matches Del never gives up and is extremely stubborn. He is determined not to be pinned. He does not want to loose and if he does he works harder then ever to make sure he won't again. Del will always be close to being beaten- so close but he always fights it. Del believes he is the best. He compares himself to his father, to his fellow wrestlers to people on the street or in the hall. He is constantly in a mindset of that drive to win. In one match against a guy named Wallor from St. Louis University High, Del is very confident. Yet Del is deathly close to loosing the match. He manages though to use all his energy to fight off Wallor in the very end and flips his opponent. Because of the stubbornness and perseverance of Del he wins the match. Del shows his desire and his will in life outside of wrestling. His father is an alcoholic who left their home and eventually dies. The issues surrounding Del's father are large yet Del maintains faith. He tries so very hard not to get stuck in the rut most would find themselves helplessly amerced in. Del does not give up and because of this he is successful. The last challenge Del has is getting back into everything he has lost. His arm has been hurt; his family was broken, so Del begins with a little weight. He begins to take on a little more a regain is strength. Del begins to try again because he knows the secret and he will preserver for the love of the game. Personally, my great passion is debate. I spend the majority of free time on it and I am always pushing my friends to do more on
