The pros of Capital Punishment

Capital Punishment, legal infliction of death as a penalty for violating criminal law.

The argument in favor is based on justice and the nature of a moral community, which requires that each person respect the life, liberty and freedom of others. Those who commit vicious crimes destroy the basis on which a moral community rests and forfeits their rights to citizenship and even to life itself.

Here are some reason's we feel that Capital Punishment should be enforced.

The act of murder is the climax-result of previous thoughts and acts. Murder like all other crimes, is a crime against society. It is for this assult that the state infects punishment. The state is impersonal. If it is clear that a person is guilty beyond any doubt of murder, then that person should be sentenced to death.

Judge Robert E. Crowe, prosecuter on the Leopold/Loeb trial states "I believe that society wishes to take the life of the murder because society does not wish to lose i's own. Crowe further state that to commute the death sentence to life imprisonment is an "unpardonable abuse" of executive clemency. Proponents against the death penalty allege that murderers are the criminals least likely to repeat their crimes.

Use of the death penalty as intended by law could actually reduce the number of violent murders if it is used as a system of justice, not a method of deterrence. Further, opponents of the death penalty will argue that although it is said to exist as a crime deterrent, in reality it has no effect on crime at all. Supporters of capital punishment no longer view it as a deterrent, but as a just punishment for the crime committed.

Should be enforced in more timely fashion:

As a parting thought: Assume all murderers would instantly die upon murdering. Murderers would then kill only if they wished to die themselves. Murder/suicide is an extremely small component of all murders. Therefore, is a swift and sure death penalty was universally applied to our worst criminals, it is logically conclusive that the death penalty would be a significant deterrent.

Does that statistic matter if you become the victim of one who does repeat their crimes? Of the 2,575 prisoners sentenced to death in 1992, 1 out of 5 had a prior conviction of homicide. Is this the kind of justice we want in the United States? If the killers were sentenced to death the first time and executed in a timely manner, say 1-2 years, fewer innocent lives would have to perish. By executing the murderers the first time around, fear of this type of punishment would protect socoety. Thus, punishment would fit the crime and the victims family and society would be able to have
