A detailed Summary of Should the right of public sch
There has been much controversy about whether or not public school teachers should have the right to strike. Some people believe that the right to strike should be unrestricted, while others feel that this right must be limited. In this essay I will argue that the right of public school teachers to strike should be curtailed.
My main argument will be that when public school teachers strike, the education of children is interrupted. If the education of children is interrupted, then they won't have the same opportunities as their peers. If children don't have the same opportunities as their peers, then parents will question the spending of their tax money and might look for better schools. When teachers strike the ability of schools to achieve their objectives in a high-quality way is compromised. Therefore, if public school teachers strike, then students won't have the opportunity to perform well.
A strike is a means through which employees demand changes because they are dissatisfied with aspects of their jobs. Teachers want higher salaries, better working conditions, and job security. Their demands serve their own interests and essentially, not the interests of their students. Teachers are supposed to be advocates fo

"Equity means fairness in sharing the resources available for schooling. This educational value corresponds to a general societal value honoring fair play and equal opportunity" (Sergiovanni et al., p.7). Where are the fair play and the equal opportunity once teachers decide to leave the classroom?
When teachers leave the classroom, students tend to fall behind, and some students struggle to readjust. Teachers are vital resources to each of their students. Once that resource is taken away, children are at a disadvantage. Some people might argue that this interruption is only short-term. However, "Studies have shown that children who have been diagnosed with a range of mental disabilities are best supervised with a teacher providing continuous education" (San Nicolas & Tanji). Students that have continuity in their education will have the same opportunity as the rest of the competing population. Therefore, in order to give the same opportunities to all children the teachers must remain in the classroom.
When it comes to spending, the general population is usually concerned with getting their money's worth. Parents invest myriad of time and tax money for their children's education. Considering that teachers' salaries are the greatest cost in a school budget, teachers are a vital part of this investment that parents and students cannot afford to lose. Just as the money, time, and labor invested into a house can increase its value, the efficient use of resources is vital to the quality of education. Therefore, parents are concerned with the efficient use of their tax money in the public school system. Some might object that by meeting the demands of striking teachers, the schools may be more efficient with increased resources and
