Death Be Not Proud by John Gunther is a novel in which you see the love a father has for his son. This true story is about a gifted boy named Johnny Gunther who died of a brain tumor at the age of seventeen. The book encounters his life, along with his family's, during this horrible time and shows the amazingly unselfish way that Johnny handles this situation. This story is portrays life in a way that is not seen very often - in a way that makes you notice what you have. One should be grateful for what you have today, because it may be gone tomorrow.

" When he uttered that childhood wish - 'to do some good for this world' - he was reflecting all the gifts that had been given him, of goodness, gentleness, and warmth of spirit: he was one of those who thought earnestly that he owed the world a living, not vice versa" (Gunther 22). Johnny was concerned of those around him, not of himself. He felt that life was a precious gift that was given


In Death Be Not Proud by John Gunther, Johnny Gunther, a young boy who shamefully died at the age of 17, was a boy of pure talent. He proved to everyone that he was not going to let the little bit of life he had left just go to waste, he was going to do something with it. If he was not trying to think of new theories, he was reading or writing articles. This amazing boy impressed all around him in all he did. Johnny Gunther defiantly was grateful for what he had, because it could have been gone on any day.

" Particularly I remember Johnny's considerateness, even when he got sicker," (Gunther 61). Here Gunther states the qualities of this selfless boy. Even when Johnny was having his life torn out of his hands, he was still a considerate, polite, caring person. In this case Gunther remembers how Johnny wanted to have some classmates visit him, but hesitated for that he thought they might get bored.
