Philosopher Albert Camus was born on November 7, 1913 in Mondovi, Algeria. A year later, in 1914, his father died during a World War I battle, leaving his nearly deaf mother to take care of two sons. This poverty struck hardship remains constant throughout Camus' life, influencing his literature. In 1940, during wartime, Camus worked in Paris as a reporter for Paris-Soir. It was at this time where he began writing three manuscripts that he called The Absurds. These three writings are considered Camus' best philosophical works. It includes The Stranger, The Myth of Sisyphus, and Caligula.

The Myth of Sisyphus is a well-crafted short story, with Camus dissecting and refining the short story for five years. The first sentence shows the crafted content of each sentence, "There is only one serious philosophical problem, and that is suicide"

Linking this short story to reality, one's hardships come when Sisyphus is pushing the ball up the mountain. One will never know if they will reach the top of the mountain, reach their reason for living. But despite this mystery, one will never doubt the reason why they continue to push the ball up the mountain. It is our ability to learn from our mistakes that makes us human. Without challenging ourselves, we cannot begin to live. The rock represents our challenges that life bestows upon us.

Camus is suggesting that despite one's fate, they should accept it in order to continue living. Sisyphus knew his destiny, that he will never accomplish his goal, but he continued with his hardships. Our society pushes that everyone has equal opportunity, but I believe this is false. Like Camus, I believe that one must accept their destiny. We are all born into different position, with different privileges. These privileges of what type of family one is born into with a certain type of lifestyle. All of these things are not chosen by a person, but is their destiny. But when the rock rolls back down the mountain, one decides which path to take. This is where are life decisions take in to account. This is the time where people question suicide or not.

Throughout the story, Camus points out the absurdity in our lives. Sisyphus is not a typical hero, but an absurd hero. And our lives, are also absurd. Camus states, "The return to consciousness, the escape from everyday sleep represent the first steps of absurd freedom" (The Myth of Sisyphus). I agree that our lives are absurd, since there are many holes left unanswered. Justifying the reason of our existence will always be unanswered, leaving us with absurd lives. But it is difficult to grasp that Sisyphus is an absurd hero. Those two words are opposite to
