Othello and my life

The play "Othello" written by William Shakespeare is about a general named Othello, a moor who lives in Venetia and is married to a woman name Desdemona, who is of a different race than Othello. Othello is a respected general, but less respected as a person because of his dark skin and foreign roots. The play's main villain is a character named Iago, he is Othello's sword bearer. He brings out his evil nature when he is passed over for the position of Lieutenant. He makes up stories, lies, and twists things around in stories to turn Othello against his wife Desdemona and other characters in the play. He gets revenge on Othello by making him jealous by telling him that Cassio, the Lieutenant is having an affair with his wife Desdemona. Jealousy is one of the human characters that is shown in this play and it plays a big part in the story of the play.

Jealousy is a part of ever human, and most people get jealous once in a while. I have seen people jealousy in people many times in my life. Jealousy can become a part of any relationship if people do not trust each other. It can cause families and friends to turn against each other. In the beginning of the play, Iago is upset that he lost the Lieutenant position to Cassio. Iago say

In the last act, the jealousy that has been inside Othello came out and caused him to kill Desdemona without even thinking. As the play concludes, all causes of jealousy are proved false. Othello realizes in the end that Desdemona was never unfaithful to him. But he realizes it too late and then kills himself. Jealousy is the source of pain and death for these tragic characters. The green-eyed monster, that is jealousy has succeeded in killing the characters that have been affected by it.

of Othello stealing his daughter's love. Brabantio says, " Whether a maid

so tender, fair and happy, so opposite to marriage that she shunn'd"(1.2.65-66 18). In this play jealousy is personified as a green-eyed monster, as Iago says, "O, beware, my lord, of jealousy; it is the green-eyed monster, which doth mock the meat if feeds on" (3.3.168-170 87).

Iago was jealous and angry because he had more experience in the army than Cassio, but Othello did not give the position to him. Jealousy exists in human nature and pops up whenever a person has to face a situation like the one Iago is in at the beginning of the play. Also in the same Scene, Roderigo is jealous of Othello's marriage to Desdemona, because he is desperately in love with her. Roderigo expresses it by saying, " What a full fortune does the thick-lips owe, if he can carry't thus!" (1.1.73-74 7).
