Evidence on Antony and Cleopatra
On the evidence of Antony and Cleopatra's relationship we can see how this makes the partnership of Antony, Octavius and Lepidus unworkable. The relationship of Antony and Cleopatra is one that is very much developed and we join the play at this stage, they are clearly in love and Antony is enjoying the hedonistic atmosphere. We can see that Cleopatra is very much in love with Antony, although she could be seen as obsessive. One reason for this could be that she has a longing for power. If she marries Antony, she will get the closet she can to having some power, which she clearly loves. This could account to the fact that there is not a patriarchal relationship. Antony loves the sensuous, hedonistic place of Egypt where people can have fun and party. However with all this fun Antony starts to forget the duty he has to Rome and while he has been away in Egypt his wife Fulvia and his brother have joined
There are three leaders of the Roman Empire, Antony, Octavius and Lepidus. Lepidus owns the west of the world he is considered by most as the weakest and ineffectually of the three and is in the middle of Antony and Octavius, because he is always trying to stop disputes. Octavius is extremely "roman" what I mean by this is that he puts honour and duty before all else, he is also an extremely good politician, some might say a political genius, although being younger than Antony he is extremely cool, calm, collected and tactical. He also makes allies and when he is finished with them, destroy all they have. We know this because he does it to both Pompey and Lepidus.
