Document Analysis
UNITED STATES HISTORY IN A WORLD SETTINGThis document will seek to analyze the city of Boston in the early 1770's to explore the causes of extreme violent and rebellious actions of the American colonists to the British. It will also briefly discuss the life of Benjamin Franklin a great scientist politician and philosopher. The visual image I chose for my analysis (The Boston Massacre) by Paul Revere shows the Bostonians rebelling against the Red Coats of Great Britain. The Boston Massacre was the result of a long disputed argument between the settlers and Great Britain on whether or not British troops should remain stationed in America. On the evening of March 5, 1770, a group which gathered at the Customs House began insulting a guard calling him various names, afterwards a captain and seven guards came to his aid only to also be insulted and showered with snowballs and stones. Out of fear the soldiers began to discharge their weapons wounding six and killing five. After fleeing to their barracks they were hunted down by hundreds of Boston citizens wanting revenge. In response to the Boston Massacre Thomas Hutchinson gave the order for all British troops to leave Boston.
The "best of the web" site that I chose to analyze (Benjamin Franklin: A biography, sources, and even a movie featuring one the most well-known of the early Americans.) was basically a portal into the life of Benjamin Franklin. The web site didn't include many historical documents; it did however include a time line and a video. A modern-day individual did the site in the third person, so it doesn't include the judgments and opinions of individuals who existed when Benjamin Franklin did. The simple fact that this site was done by a modern-day individual in my opinion discredits their information in some form. Now it is customary to only write about the good in an individual and never the bad. The fact that this site exalts Benjamin Franklin and doesn't in any way scorn him is in some sense misleading because it is common knowledge that no one is perfect. I would strongly recommend this site to someone interested in writing a positive paper on the life of Benjamin Franklin, however if someone is writing an overall evaluation of Benjamin Franklin, it is best that they use this site as a secondary reference for their paper. The author of this document (John Andrews) wrote the document from a central standpoint. John Andrews was probably a reporter of some form during the event, bec
