Suicide is unfortunately not an uncommon topic for many people. It has taken the lives of many people in this country and many countries throughout the world. The rates of suicide and suicide attempts among adolescents and young adults are currently on the rise. In fact, in the “United States, 4,784 adolescents and young adults took their own lives in 1995 alone (Johnson, Krug, and Potter 74). Many factors could contribute to this such as pressure from parents and family, rejection from friends and/or peers, or conflict within himself. Additionally, “youth suicide is a tragedy, not only ending the life of a young person but also violently upsetting the lives of the victims’ family members, friends, and neighbors (Johnson, Krug, and Potter 74). When parents pressure their children they don’t realize how much influence they have on their child’s life and their decisions. Parents can have the tendency to have high expectations of what they want their children’s life to be like and what they want their children to accomplish.
