Hoagy Carmichael: An American Composer

The documentary of Hoagy Carmichael will begin with the responses from interviews with random people edited together answering the question: Who was Hoagy Carmichael? The narrator begins with a brief (no longer than 90 seconds) synopsis of Hoagy Carmichaels life while photos, video, and music play. The narrator discusses how Hoagy is a legend (via VH-1 Legends/Behind-the-music esc...).

The narrator begins the first segment by discussing Hoagy's birth and childhood in Bloomington. The story illustrates how his father took the family from place to place in search of financial stability-ends up in Indianapolis. Narrator introduces Hoagy's first influence (other than his mother) Reginald Duvall, an African-American pianist that would go on to give him lessons and introduce Hoagy to Jazz. Narrator describes


The final segment briefly describes how Hoagy died in California and how his body was transported to be buried in his native Bloomington. The narrator describes his funeral/memorial service while b-rolls show the procession, service, etc... The story begins to wind down with the responses from the following question edited together: How will Hoagy Carmichael's music be passed on to future generations? The story ends with a shot of the narrator outside (at the same place as the introduction-Rose Hill Cemetery) discussing how Hoagy Carmichael's music will never be lost because it is timeless, etc... the camera pans to his gravestone and fades to black. Lastly, a CG/title screen fades up to a picture of Hoagy, his DOB and DOD then fades to black (music up to bed level-roll credits).
