Why was Caesar assassinated in 44BC?Gaius Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 BC for many reasons. Many people, especially his opponents had feared his power and dominion in Rome. He was very ambitious from the very start, he had achieved many and proved himself to be a great military leader, other members of the Roman government felt jealous of his power. When he declared himself as dictator for life he threatened the careers of the ones on lower rank. Julius Ceasar was a very powerful man in Rome, he declared himself as Dictator for life, this made him a king in all but name. At that time Rome was a Republic and the republicans hated the thought of having an empire, it enfuriated some and frightened others. The founding of Rome traced back to the overthrow of the Etruscan kings, the republicans hated having kings which Julius Caesar had the power of,they could not let Caesar have the chance to become an emperor.
