Whole Language and Phonics

Do you know anything about the learning styles of Whole Language and Phonics? Whole

Language envoles the full process of reading, writing and speaking. Phonics is more like a game,

where you match sounds with letters and that is supposed to make learning fun. There is a lot of

Web sites filled with information located on the Internet about Whole Language and Phonics.

Most sites tend to debate which learning process might be better and some even think it is good to

combine the two learning styles together. Well, I found a website for Manatee Middle School,

which is located in Naples, Florida and there is a huge section titled, "Whole Language or

Phonics?". This section is written by Wendy Hopkins, who is a middle school teacher among

other things and she has a lot of information to give about this topic. The information given is a

debate, it goes deep into the advantages and disadvantages of both learning styles.

The Author Wendy Hopkins is a sixth, seventh and eighth grade teacher at Manatee

Middle School. She teaches sixth grade English, Science and Reading, while also teaching sixth,
