A wife of a college professor wanted a divorce, so the week she left, he decided to do some research to find out what was happening to him. He went to the library looking for any advice from a book he could find; none helped him except for one. This book was a collection of essays by various sociologists. One of the essays was so close to what he was experiencing, he thought that is was a horoscope. The essay focused on middle-class Americans of the strait-arrow persuasion, likely to be good parents, all around good, parents but still divorced. That was what described him the best. Stepfamilies are good for people in many ways. They help to reduce stress for all the members. The children in a stepfamily are less likely to repeat a grade than children in a one-parent family.
