Animal Farm
About two weeks ago, I viewed George Orwell's Animal Farm, I had no background on this movie, so I didn't know what to expect, I had heard of the book, but had no preconceived opinion on it. So, I was very interested to see what it was all about. Today we will talk about the movie Animal Farm, what it was about? We will also talk about leadership issues: Is it possible to lead without selfish motives? Do tensions exist between serving self and serving others ethically? Other topics and questions will also arise throughout the paper, so sit back, pour a cup of coffee, and get comfy. Before we look at the issues concerning leadership, we should first get an idea on what the movie was about. According to our book, I believe Animal Farm demonstrates the Utilitarian Approach where good conquers evil. The good being the Animals of Animal Farm. While the bad being farmer Jones and Napoleon. George Orwell's movie Animal Farm does an excellent job of drawing parallels from the situation leading up to the Russian Revolution of 1917. Animal Farm is a satire that uses its characters to symbolize leaders of the Russian Revolution. The animals of "Manor Farm", the setting of this movie, which symbolizes Russia, overthrow their hum
The president of the United States leads for the good of all Americans, but he also tries to do a good job so he can be re-elected, or get others in his party elected for the next term. Your boss at work tries to do right for the company, but he also leads to the best of his ability to keep his job. Do these people do their job for the good of the people? Of course, but they also do it for themselves. Look at Gandhi, he fasted and lead his people to freedom, and did not benefit personally for himself, now one might argue that he himself was fighting for freedom. Martin Luther King and the Civil rights movement was the same kind of story. I know that's a bad way to put things, especially talking about two terrific leaders, but it is true. They had self-motives as well. They were apart of what they were fighting for. Now, in all cases fighting for self-motives is not a bad thing, however in Napoleon's case it was. He let the rest of the farm go to hell in a hand basket why he prospered in the good's that the farm produced. It's a double- sided knife. I hope you have seen my point I am trying to make. I really think it is impossible to lead without some sort of selfish motive. I have sat here and tried to think of many situations where I could make an argument on it, because I wanted to be able to say, yes, it is possible. However, I could not think of any. I myself am guilty of leading with selfish motives. I am a Assistant Manager at Champs Sports, but when I lead, In the back of my head, I want to do a good job, to get that raise, or that promotion, or praise from my boss, or even more importantly to gain the confidence in my team at work. Just like you Charlie, as you read this, I know that you are in it for teaching kids, and I truly believe that you like teaching kids, and passing your experiences along. But, would you do this if you didn't get paid? You have a wife and kids to worry about. Heck no you wouldn't, you would want to put food on the table, and find a job where you could put as much food on the table as possible. You just got lucky getting a job you really enjoyed, and did care about. You lead us, your students, and we learn from you, but you teach us so you can gain food for your family. We as students lead in our group, only because we want to get a good grade, it is another self-motive. So, again, I am sorry to say, that you cannot lead without some sort of self-motive. But what kinds of tensions arise from leading ethically? Well in Animal Farm, the tensions sparked between the animals, and napoleon. But what happens out in the real world? In doing the right thing I have had multiple experiences in making ethical experiences. Like I
