Natural Selection

Natural Selection a process of evolution is a struggle or fight if you will, for the survival of the species whose most fit. This includes competition for living space and food resources, as well as mates. Natural selection gives many species the ability to survive in changing environments.

Related to Darwin's Theory of Evolution, Natural Selection is the method in which evolution occurs. Scholars once thought that species did not change for any reason. However evidence led to the discovery that current species of animals are descendents of an older, extinct species. Changes occurred in the environment of the extinct species which led to either its demise or the evolution into the current species which was able to survive the environment. When the environment


This occurs through the natural environment which selects genes that are more preferred than others. These genes become more frequent and helpful to a species or animal until the environment changes. These traits are in fact one of the foundations of Natural Selection. A trait is a feature or ability of an animal that helps it fit into the environment. Traits that are successful, beneficial and adaptable to an environment are passed on to future generations. An example of such a trait is a chameleon's ability to change its colors and blend in with its surroundings. This trait grants the chameleon a longer lifespan and a greater opportunity to reproduce which in turn provides the species with a better chance for survival.
