I Love Lucy
The show begins with the point of attack of Lucy and Ricky sitting in their living room; the neighbors and best friends, Fred and Ethel Mertz, were also there. The next part would fall into the category of exposition, basically setting the viewer up with information for the upcoming action. Lucy was reading an article in the newspaper about who was going to play the character of Don Juan in an upcoming Broadway play. Lucy was adlibbing, from the newspaper, how Ricky was married to a luscious redhead and all the other women should stay away. Of course everyone in the room instantly says, "that's not what it says" and Lucy acknowledges that they were right. Lucy was just a little jealous that she was not mentioned in the newspaper article as being Ricky Ricardo's wife. Ricky then tries to set Lucy at ease by telling her that he always wants his luscious redhead by his side. He also states he is taking her to Hollywood because he wants her by his side. This last part of the first scene is the precipitating event that produces the rest of the story line. This next part is where the rising action starts. Lucy promptly tells Ricky that she can remember like yesterday when Ricky did not want her by his side. Ricky quickly says to her, "
The second scene is more exposition where Lucy tells the story about how at one time Ricky did not want her by his side. Fred comes over to the apartment and tells Ricky that their planned camping trip is all locked on. Lucy overhears Fred telling Ricky about the camping trip and thinks the guys are planning a trip for the families. As you know, Lucy jumps deep into the middle of the conversation and tells Ricky and Fred that the families will have a great time camping together. When Ricky tries to tell Lucy that it is a camping trip for the guys only, the baby cries and Lucy runs off before Ricky can say anything. Fred sternly tells Ricky that if Lucy goes he is not going because that would me Ethel would want to go. Fred feels if Ethel goes he would be miserable, and he would rather stay home. With more rising action, Ricky then comes up with this great idea; he will take Lucy on a weekend camping trip to let her see how rough camping can be and try to deter her from wanting to go along with himself and Fred. Little does Lucy know but Ricky has an ulterior motive of making the camping trip so rough on Lucy that she will never want to go again; however, Ethel stops by the apartment the day before the camping trip and lets the cat out of the bag. Toward the end of the second scene, the viewer has seen more rising action of Ricky plotting against Lucy with a miserable camping trip. The third scene, Lucy and Ricky arrive in the woods to setup camp. This part of the show is mainly rising action moving toward the climax. Ricky suggests that they go fishing first so he takes Lucy
