Manifest Destiny
A detailed Summary of Manifest Destiny
The American idea of "Manifest Destiny" played a very important role in our political
dealings with native Americans in general and the Mexican government in particular. The
concept of "Manifest Destiny" was for the United States to control the land from "Sea to
Shining Sea" or the present day boundaries of the United States.
The Americans believed that nothing must stand in the way for them to accomplish this
goal. Even if it meant war for the still very young United States of America.
When the settlers came over from England they landed in what is now known as
the New England territory. After the settlers fully populated this area they decided to
move west. However, they didn't care about pushing the Indians out of their homeland
once again. In 1803 when the Louisiana purchase took place, the Americans didn't think
about the Indians and kicked them out of their new homeland. As the Americans
continued to settle the west they als
