AMERICAN VALUES
I decided to ask a few people as to what they thought it was. One person told me that the American dream was to be rich. Another person told me it was having a perfect family situation. The last person believed the American dream was to be able to do absolutely nothing. Whether it is a family working together towards one common goal, or a single woman working her way up the ladder, in a sense it is all the same dream. Regardles of the goal one works towards, it all comes down to success. Success includes getting ahead at work and school, and the goal of attaining wealth, power, and prestige. Without success why would anyone want to do anything? You would think that success is free to every American, but it is not.It depends very much on race, colour and sex. American Values, it has been said, means different things to different people, but with the same major goal. Differences in wealth and status affect the meaning of the dream for different people. And there are those that may work just as hard as any, but are destined never to get as far as the ceiling that America has put on them. If you put these values up against each other and ask wich one is most constructive, it will be Donna Fargo?s The willingness to lay down one's life for one's country displays honor and courage beyond the call of duty. In order to uphold American ideals and virtues. Many Americans idolize these individuals and sporadic bursts of patriotism often arise when prompted by ex. war. If you obey the laws, pay taxes and is an productive and responsible citizen, it is much easier to make a nation work. A contrast to Arnold Swarzenegger is Donna Fargo. In the poem United States of America she expreses that instead of loving material values she loves the mentality and attitude in the country. She is proud to be a citizen of America, and will do anything to keep it good and comfortable t
