For many years, Hollywood has been filming many movies and popular TV shows that portray the life and experience of the Old West for what it was really not, heroically mythical and dangerously romantic. What were the proposes of Hollywood in filming many films about this popular subject of life and history? For the most part of it, Hollywood was romanticizing the life and experience of the Old West in their movies and TV shows. However, some movies like Tombstone, by George P. Cosmatos, are non-fiction, of real character names and of real events, but they still are largely romanticized by Hollywood. The portrayal of the movie Tombstone is very romanticized compared to how the Old West really was, Hollywood added romanticism to make it more interesting and to appeal to a larger number of audiences. Hollywood could have made the movie more realistic by following more of what life was really like in the Old West, many parts of the video were not portrayed as they really were back in the Old West.

If Hollywood would have changed some the story line and some other things, the movie would have turned out to be more realistic and really portray the reality of life in the Old West. The first thing that Hollywood needs to change to make the movie more realistic and relevant to life in the Old West is exclude all those cowboy gunfights and unreasonable killings. In reality, cowboys did not participate in entire-town gunfights, they only used their gun when they were in danger or to protect their families. They did not kill unreasonably or innocent people, so the scene where Cutting Bill Brosis kill the marriage and an innocent priest was definitely not part of the Old West. The many gunfight and killing scenes make the more mythical and romantically dangerous, because the good guys always end up being the heroes and the winners and the bad guys end up defeated, similar to ancient Greek mythology. Another reality Hollywood excluded in the movie were realistic Old West settings. The settings of the movie portray the Old West only as a barren town in the desert that gets its food out of nowhere. Through out the film, there were not a single cattle to be observed, the most important farm animal and source of food in the Old West. Grazing cattle was a cowboys primary job and occupation, then the cowboys of the film not be called "cowboys," because there were no cows in the film that would have given them their name. In fact, there were no other farm animals to be observed in the film but horses, nor there were any gardens nor any place were vegetation was grown by people. Cowboys grew their own fruits and vegetables in their own gardens, and the cowboys of the film did not have any kind of vegetation but beer and whisky. Hollywood really misportrayed the Old West in the film, they need to include many more realities to the film that where nowhere to be observed.

The life and experiences of the Old West have been modified as mythical, heroic, and dangerously romantic. However the reality of how life really was in the Old West is not those adventurous shootings and gun fights that Hollywood portrays of the Old West, but a dull and tough life.
