I'm a Fool

Sherwood Anderson's "I'm a Fool" is a very truthful story. Andy, the young "fool" in the story, is a good example of an actual 19-year-old boy trying to impress a girl. He ends up making a fool of himself by lying. This lie gets him what he wants at the time, but ends up ruining his future with Lucy. Like a typical human, after he makes his mistake, he finds something and someone to blame it on. "I'm a Fool" captured all of the qualities of real life.

His excuse for this lie at the time was that they had "swell" names. At first this started out as an innocent lie. After Andy spent all day with his three new friends, a relationship began to bloom between him and Lucy. She even kissed him. Then before she boarded her train, Lucy told Andy, "It won't be long because you'll write me and I'll write to you." Th
