? Hello, my name is Aphrodite goddess of love and beauty. Some of you

Today I would like to tell you the tale of Adonis and our love that was

lost through his tragic death. Appropriately, Adonis means ?Lord? which he

was. There is some confusion as to who Adonis? parents were. Hesiod

believed him to be the son of Phenox and Aephesiboea. While Apollodorus

believed the son of Cinyras and Metharme. Today I?m going to set the record

straight, because I know the real story.

I persuaded Myrrha to do something that is considered inappropriate,

but we gods don?t conform to mortal laws. Myrrha became pregnant and

when her father, Theias the king of Assyria found out he was so furious. He

had been tricked by Myrrha to have a relationship with her. He chased her

with a knife ( can you imagine?) Well, that is when the gods had to interve
