Headlights of Inevitability

It had been a gorgeous day with the sun flaming like a well-stocked campfire. The sky was crystal blue, and the air was warm but crisp. I felt the need to go out and play tennis against the wall down at memorial field. The day could not have been more perfect. When I dusk approached, I headed home through the empty park...

I was at Mountain Avenue, and it was so quiet it hurt your ears from the strain of no sound. The road was dark, and the lamplight reflected off the short white lines causing them to almost glow along the dark abyss of a road. I felt a slight gust of cool air sweep up behind me. I could the hungry side of my stomach fighting the butterfly filled other side. Although I had made this cross so frequently before there was something that caused today to be so peculiar. I couldn't quite tell why the air was so unfamiliar and distasteful. I wanted to just get placed on the other side of the street without having to cross it myself. Still feeling cemented to the sidewalk, another car whooshed by me kicking up more exhaust and dust in my direction. The car that passed was just a blurry red object. It was going so fast, it was even hard to tell if anyone was even driving it. I finally jackhammered my feet out of the sidewalk and looked both
