A detailed Summary of genetic enginnering

A Link to Life Almeida 2

Revolutionary science advancements have made bioengineering a new link to life for the less fortunate. Thousands of families and children go hungry or die everyday. These numbers are astonishing, but yet not even global wide support can care for all of these families in their lifetime. Scientist have been practicing and developing new ways to cope with this population explosion in these poor areas of the country. These new advancements have slowly crept into today's society. Imagine the cereal that you ate this morning; the grains could have been genetically modified.

Genetically modified foods are safe they have been tested repeatedly for any defects. Millions of dollars has been invested to make this new science work accordingly. Researchers are working diligently to develop crops with enhanced nutritional properties, which are safe and effective in growing these genetically modified organisms (i.e. gmo).

Since Mendel, plant breeders have modified the genetic material of crops by selecting plants that arise through natural or, sometimes, induced changes. Gardeners and farmers and, at times, industrial plant breeders have crossbred plants with the intention of creating a pr

In other words we have to be aware of our health and what we eat, meaning that we still need to wash our fruit and veggies properly before we consume them. Essentially what Dr. Henney is saying is that this new breed of science can be made to adapt to poorer countries like South Africa where food and money is hard to come by. If this research continues to develop it will be able to help millions of people around the world and make the research a little cheaper and the produce more effective. But food production is not the only problem that might threaten the food source later in the future, soil erosion is accelerating incredibly fast, the minerals and nutrients and the soil haven't has enough time to recycle through. Pests might have high tolerance to the antibiotics that they insert into their gmos making it difficult for genetically altered foods to constantly change to accept that these pests have adapted to it's new prey's condition.

Adaptation is key when developing new breeds of organisms, especially when providing existing organisms with new traits. A grain of rice can be the main food source for low income families in the poorer cities of the world, scientist have been able to integrate beta-carotene into one single grain of rice which when consume can affect the body greatly. A child who has a low immune system has a greater chance of getting ill. While a child with the opposite condition will have a higher resistance to illnesses. A grain of rice that is enriched

Thus increasing our bodies defences we will have a better chance for survival and a higher resistance to diseases and illne
