A detailed Summary of A Christmas Carol


Ebenezer Scrooge was a cold hearted old man, who always shunned the idea of Christmas because he believed it was an excuse for people to be absent from work and for the idle people to get handouts. Because of his cold heartedness, Scrooge is visited by a total of four spirits that try to convince him to change his awful ways. The first of the four spirits is the ghost of Jacob Marley, who was an old business partner that was just as greedy and cold as Scrooge. He warns Scrooge that if he continues to live his life being greedy and cold that he will end up wearing the chains of greed he has built for himself. Jacob proclaims that three spirits will visit Scrooge within the next night. The three spirits are the ghost of Christmas Past, the ghost of Christmas Present, and the ghost of Christmas Yet to Come.

At the sound of the hour bell, light flashed up into the room and almost automatically the curtains of his bed were drawn. The drawn curtains were the curtains by which Scrooge's face was staring. Sc


rooge found himself gazing at an unearthly visitor, like a child, but not as much a child as an old man. Putting his arm out, Scrooge was taken by the Ghost of Christmas Past and started on their journey. The spirit took Scrooge on a journey of when he was a young man and showed him that he used to be able to love and care about people, but no longer can because he let his greed get into his heart. By showing Scrooge his past, the ghost has makes him realize that he has changed drastically from who he was when he was young and that his interests have turned from people to money.

Again Scrooge was awaken by a mysterious feat, this time is wasn't a beam of light, but a strange voice called him by his name and commanded him to enter. The strange voice was coming from his own room. He was positive that the room was his, but it had undergone an amazing transformation. The walls and ceiling were hung with living green, making it look like a perfect grove from every part of which bright glistening berries gle
