Is Religion a Necessary Part?

A detailed Summary of Is Religion a Necessary Part?

After the September 11, many questions regarding religion have been raised all over the world. Today every individual in America is wondering " Is religion really necessary". "Aren't we more safe without it?" Americans have experienced this question for the first time in history, however that is not the case with most of the other countries.

The place from where I come i.e., India has always been targeted with invasions by different religion. India was once a land of gold and knowledge. Aryans, nomadic tribes from North were the first ones to come to this land. They along with the already existing Dravidians thought that food, water and shelter should not be the main goal of life. They felt that human life was much more precious and that it should be utilized in a better way. So after a lot of thinking and discussions they came up with a ideal way of living and called that way of life Hinduism. Group of people who had proper knowledge about Hinduism went from place to place and tried to spread this concept. Thus, through religion, the people of India got the concept of better life. This concept brought discipline amongst people and thus helped them develop and improve in all fields. Everybody appreciated the concept of religion

If religion is for the betterment of human life, then why is religion the main cause of suffering for most of the people? Where modern world is driving at? According to Yves "If a person took God and religious values seriously, he or she would be among the greatest critics of present society, where religious values are given lip service, at best." Almost every religious leader is propagating their thoughts and ideas with a view of spreading their religion rather than spreading a good thought. Today most of the countries are fighting not to protect a good thought or a moral but just to spread and prove the superiority of their religion. Thus, the modern world is driving by the same concepts we had in Stone Age. We are all going towards the same place where we were before the religion actually started. Why is that so? The actual understanding of the term religion is missing from our lives. We have forgotten to respect other's views and realize that there is a god within him too. Religion should actually remove our ego but today we have built our ego on religion. Everyone is fighting on the issue that his or her religion is superior. Thus, the modern world of today has become ignorant about religion and has developed a wrong attitude towards it.

A big part of difficulty in understanding religion is that of definition. We can't define it exactly. Every person has his own definition. According to The Catholic Encyclopedia, 1913 Religion means the voluntary subjection of oneself to God.

However the true knowledge of religion will only help us overcome this current crisis of terror from today's world. According to Thomas "She or he would be among the greatest champions of peace and justice. It is essential people become more aware about
