cloning

Today, humankind lives in a world of technology, technology that is rapidly advancing and presenting more ways to improve life. The cloning of animals and humans are part of this technology, parts which can ultimately lead to the reassurance and pro-longing of life as we now know it. All together, cloning has its unfavorable properties as well as its righteous and benevolent properties. The first mammal to ever be successfully produced, through the means of cloning, was the infamous female lamb known as "Dolly". That very success would spark many of those inferior and commendable properties to be known all over the world, especially in the everlasting debate over that of human cloning.

Cloning, sparingly, is a popular topic in debate by thousands of people all over the world. People, not neutral on the subject, perceive the art of cloning as either a good or bad scientific exploration. People have many religious views as well as many scientific views on cloning.

Most of the religious views are based on the fact that humans are beginning to play the role of God. "Many of us feel wary of cloning for this reason; yet some theologians hold that 'playing God' is exactly what God expects us to do. Huma

Scientists tend to view cloning as a means of helping and saving humankind. A means that could pro-long lives of sick individuals, cure the deadliest of diseases, contribute to the everlasting need of livestock as well as animals on the route towards extinction. These are only a few of the many reasons there are to research cloning.

The research of animal cloning can be important factor when it comes to the survival of humankind. Cloned animals could be the major involvement in the development of life-saving medications and antivenins. For example, a cow could be genetically developed to produce certain helpful enzymes and proteins in its milk. These enzymes and proteins can then be extracted from the milk and utilized with other ingredients to develop the desired medication. Hundreds upon hundreds of snakes, carrying the same poisonous venom, are necessary in order to make just one dose of antivenin. Now, acquiring these dangerous creatures is done by having people actually go out and capturing them. Cloning these snakes will eliminate the possibility of a person being bitten while capturing them.

Birth defects are another problem today, but can also be avoided through human cloning research. Scientists can examine the fertilized egg and determine whether or not the child carries any disease prone or defective chromosomes. "As many as 40 to 50% of the eggs of women under age forty have one chromosome too many or one too few"(Kolata 238). This one chromosome can very well determine whether or not the baby will have a misplaced ear or one less finger. Mothers carrying the AIDS virus may very well pass it on to their unborn children, but cloning research will be able to prevent this travesty from happening.

The most useful step toward the survival of humankind, is cloning that of humans themselves. Maybe not humans directly as in full grown humans free to roam as they wish, but at least the feature's humans possess. A person's organ is a very valuable to not only one person, but to other people deathly needy of that very sa
