To me animals were never a concern. Animals were just creatures put on this earth, and whatever happened to them, well, I simply didn't care. I saw them as just animals that didn't have feelings or even much intelligence. I always did love animals; I just didn't think much of them. My views on that have changed tremendously. I never knew how wrong I was.
Animal abuse has gone on for too long and gotten entirely out of hand. Working at a pet store I see first hand on how people treat their animals. People bring their pets in everyday. Seeing how some people treat the animals would turn your stomach. I now believe that animals feel and think just as people do. When people abuse them it upset me to watch the poor defenseless animal lie there, scared stiff. Animals can't talk for themselves, so that's why people must talk for them. Of all the animals that I see come in the store, dogs seem to get the raw end of the deal. I've seen more dogs abused than anything else.
I now feel that animals feel what we humans feel; pain, hurt, joy and love. I do know they are very intelligent; sometimes smarter that humans. I do care very much what happens seeing this abuse now. Watching abuse as it happened changed my point drastically.
Fighting dogs is a growing sport in Baton Rouge. Pitt bulls seem to be the preference of most fighting handlers. This is why pitts seem to have a bad reputation, when I've seen plenty of them be as gentle as a kitten. Temperament depends on the handler, and how the dog was raised. Unfortunately, most pitts were trained to fight to the death. Countless number of pitts that I see come in have scars all over from fighting. Killing and injuring dogs just to make a few bucks is disgusting. Animals trained to kill are not only a danger to themselves but a danger to other people as well.
I have seen more dogs dropped off than I would care to remember. Seeing this is gutwrenching as it happens. Watching people dropping off unwanted puppies and drivin
