Conformity has lots of benefits within lots of harms. It is needed for the utility of the group. If members do not conform group norms, it will be difficult to maintain the utility and to make decisions in group so the group cannot reach its goals. For instance, a jury cannot make a decision without conformity of majority of members. XX claims that conformists have no minds of their own and they merely succumb to the will of some unnamed majority (XX,185). Therfore it is easy to commit crimes in groups because responsibility is shared. There is a tragic example in the near past: Nazis at Germany.
