A detailed Summary of Hester Pryne character analysi
Out of the four major characters in The Scarlet Letter, Hester Prynne was the most important one. Through out the story many different sides of Hester are shown, beginning with her guilty but brave personality at the start of the story and watch her grow into a caring, helpful person to the community.
The Scarlet Letter begins when Hester had already committed her crime, so it is not known how Hester was before this all took place. Hester is first portrayed as a scandalous woman with no moral values. The reader is only aware that Hester has a husband who is not there with her at the time and that she has cheated on him with another man. The isolation makes Hester a very lonely person. She only finds comfort in Pearl and the occasional meetings Arthur. Without those two, Hester would have no one to talk to. Another characteristic comes into play here. Hester has the right to leave Boston and be free of burden from her sin. She could go elsewhere and start all over again where people wouldn't judge her on past events. Instead, Hester is stubborn and stays in Boston. She stays because she is in love with Arthur. She is able to take all that abuse and loneliness so she can stay near Arthur, even though they are not able to talk very often, which also shows that she is a self-sacr
