Jackson Andrew
I intend to prove that Andrew Jackson truly was a president for the common man. Andrew wasn't the kind of man who only worried about higher class individuals. He cared about the common man, which was what the majority of the united states were. Andrew Jackson started his historic life, on March 15, 1767 in South Carolina. He was brought up by the parents Andrew and Elizabeth Jackson. Andrew attended some school, but never all the way through high school. When Andrew was only 13 he was ready to join the South Carolina Militia, and die for our country if needed. I feel that he was very brave for doing this at such a young age. He started out only delivering messages back and forth, but only weeks later he found himself fighting neighbor to neighbor with the British. Jackson and his brother were betrayed by a neighbor and taken prisoner. The boys were taken to the officer in command and were ordered to clean his boots. Andrew was young and frightened but still refused. He said that he deserved the expected treatment to a prisoner of war, and he also deserved his freedom of speech. The officer responded by giving him a blow to the head with a saber. The blow could have killed him, if he hadn't put
Everyone could go to Andrews parties at the White house, and everyone did. At one of Andrews parties, he had a wheel of cheese weighing 1,400 lbs. Brought into the White House. The cheese was eaten within two hours. The White House smelled like cheese for weeks after that. There is a little story about how people still went to the poles and voted for Andrew Jackson even after his death. Jackson was a great president. He was not a very learned, or wise man, he was great because he not only helped win the war he was a president for the common man. You wouldn't find a president who was more true with himself, then him. That is probably why Andrew Jackson is said to be one of the five truly great president, of the United States. Jackson finished his eight-year term as president in 1836. When Jackson headed to the White House, everyone followed him. That didn't stop Andrew Jackson though. He came back four years later and won over the presidency with a 95 lead in the electoral collage, against John Adams. It's not surprising that Andrew made his first address to congress asking for the elimination of the electoral collage. Considering he could have on the first election by a lead in popular vote, if the electoral collage was banished. One thing that Jackson believed was that people should only stay working in the cabinets for a certain period of time. He felt that after a long period working they lost their interest and excitement about it. He thought with new people coming in, they would be more excited, and pumped up for everything. Andrew moved to Tennessee as it was admitted into the union. He became there first holder in the house of reps. Soon after he became a senator for the United States. Everyone wanted to be a part of
