1. The Renaissance means the rebirth of the classical past, or the rebirth of Greek and Roman philosophy, history, myths. During this period, a great deal of lost knowledge of Rome and Greece was relearned and reintegrated into the thinking of western European man.

2. Humanism was the study of classical text, which focused on human potential and achievements.

3. The basic "spirit" of the Renaissance society was secular, meaning it was world-wide and was concerned with "the here and now" or the most up to date stuff (fashions, houses, parties, etc.)

4. A patron is a person who appreciates and supports the arts and artists especially financially.

5. Perspective is a technique of visualizing three dimensions, and is also a persons point or view or how they see something.

10. An indulgence was also known as a pardon. They released a person from punishments due to a sin, or several sins.

19. Anabaptists were a group of people, who in the Reformation, believed in baptizing only those people who were old enough to decide to be Christian and in separation of church and state.

7. Utopia refers to "no place" according to the Greeks, but in English refers to an ideal place. Utopia was a name from a book written by more. It was a story about an imaginary land inhabited by peace-loving people.

8. The printing press was an invention in the 13th century that was invented by Guttenberg. It was a machine that presses paper against a tray full of inked movable type.
