Discrimination
Discrimination is any condition in which a group or individual is treated differently based on something other than individual cause, usually their connection in a socially diverse group or category. Such categories may include ethnicity, sex, religion, age, or disability. Discrimination can be looked upon as positive or negative, depending on whether a person receives favors or opportunities, or is denied them. Today, though, discrimination is rarely positive.One of the most enveloping forms of discrimination in the United States is aimed at ethnic groups. It’s a discriminatory form called Racism. Racism can be the mistreatment of a group of people on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, place of origin or even ancestry. The term racism may also mean a blind and unreasoning hatred, envy or prejudice. Some expressions of racism are slight, such as the unequal opportunity in housing and jobs. Some, not so subtle, are more devious, such as graffiti, intimidation or physical violence. Racial and ethnic slurs or so-called "jokes" are other examples of obvious racial discrimination.
