In her book, Their eyes were watching god, Zora Hurston discusses the life of Janie. In chapters 1-6, Janie is married to Logan Killicks and then Joe Starks. Her marriage with Logan Killicks was setup by her grandmother and she was not very happy with it. Later on, Janie runs off with Joe Starks.
