Many students, teachers, and even professors believe that the role of high school has transformed and is only tedious to the average high school student. Professor Botstein, a guest on the Oprah show, says that high school is designed for small people and because humans have evolved to mature at a younger age we engage ourselves in more adult activities making high school ludicrous. He stated that high school is now about artificial popularity, cliques, sports, drugs, etc, which clearly deviates for the "game of life". In belief that high school prepares us for our future, it is now evident that high school is a preparation not needed.
Many students have complained about too much homework and little time to actually get to know themselves and apply to a college with an idea of a major. Because of homework assignment after homework assignment students have been finding n
o room to breathe, relax, and have fun, as a teen should occasionally do. Parents have backed their children on the fight to change high schools. Even the incident at Columbine High School is known to be a result of high schools plights: stereotyping and cliques. A teacher at Columbine stated that children there were very much alike, therefore, if a student fit in well, they were very in, if they didn't they were very out. The outcasts would often be laughed at and mad fun of simply because of their differences. Those popular kids that made fun of them were usually the kids that were "on the top" of the school.
Now they have high schools that are broken down into academies helping students that have their future occupation and majors chosen so they could prepare ahead. They also have schools that appear in a working environment: there are cubicles rather than classrooms, classes have grades 7-12 in one rather than the restriction
