Comparison essay on Loneliness of the longdistance runner and chariots of fireI am looking at the respective personalities of the two characters and the influences which shaped their respective lives, their attitudes towards authority, their motivation in running and their respective ideas concerning ‘victory’ and ‘defeat’. Both Colin and Eric’s lives have been shaped by their surrounding and the area’s in Colin was raised in lower class society. He grew up thinking that the way to live was the way of crime. He was brought up to believe that cops and other authority figures where not there to help but only to make things worse for you in the long run. He is loyal and honest in ways only he and others of lower class society can understand. Colin leads a life of crime and dishonesty to everybody but himself. Eric on the other hand was raised in a lower class society but on the side of a missionary. He learned to respect each side of higher and lower class. He is honest and loyal to but in a very different way then Colin. He is honesty in its purest form. Eric obides by Gods Law whereas Colin obides by his owe rules.
