The Fantastiks
The Fantastiks is the longest running play in American theatre history. I thought I was not going to enjoy the play, but I couldn't of been more wrong. I thought the play was hysterical; it had a simple story line that anyone could understand. I really liked that the themes of the play dealt with real life issues; to me the play is a parody of Romeo and Juliet. It was quite comical, I also think it had a psychological side to it. The two fathers manipulated their kids into falling in love with each other by using reverse psychology, but then in turn their plan backfired on them. I think the entire play was cleverly put together, the characters parts were well written and the musical scores were wonderful. The play consisted of eight characters. Erica Piccininni played the role of Luisa, the young girl. Luisa was an aggressively romantic; I think she acted like a spoiled, crazy teenager. As most teenagers her age, she wanted to defy her parent. I hope I didn't act like this when I was younger, but chances are I probably did. Jared Zeus played the role of Matt, the young boy. Matt was a dreamer; he attended college but didn't really care for the courses he was taking. He was more interested in writin
My overall review for the play is that it was "EXCELLENT!" It was comical, but dealt with real life issues at the same time. It lets you see the thoughts, feelings and emotions you have when you are an adolescent, but at the same time you see the thoughts, feelings and emotions of parent(s), overprotective parent(s), who want the best for their child. I would recommend this play to anyone who wants to see an adolescent love story and the connection within a family, and enjoys having a good laugh. g poems to Luisa. I think he was a confused youth that thought he was grown up and knew everything. Bruce Winant played the role of Bellomy, Luisa's father. At first he seemed very hardheaded, stubborn and he seemed to have a short temper, but by the middle of the first act you could see that he was really a caring father that had a big interest in his daughters happiness. Darin DePaul played the role of Hucklebee, Matt's father. Hucklebee also seemed very stubborn and hot headed, but he too revealed his true personality by the middle of the first act. He also had a huge interest in his son's future; in aspects of his love life and his education. Perry Laylon Ojeda played the role of El Gallo, who is the narrator, character and instigator of the of the "rape" plot, all at the same time. It was uncanny how he could seem charming and demonic at the same time. He instigated the fathers to stage the "rape," not because he wanted to help out them out, but because he knew he was going to get paid for the service he provided them with. Greg Jackson played the role of The Mute, main comic relief. Even though he didn't say a word he was absolutely hysterical. He was frivolous and somber at the same time. He knew exactly when to change personalities/moods. Paul Benedict played the role of Henry, Old Shakespearean actor. I also thought he was a comic relief; he's a senile old man, who thinks he's still a wonderful Shakespearean actor. Peter Parks Hu
