Comparison between Huck Finn
In the readings of "The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn" and "The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer", both written by Samuel Langhorne Clemens, a.k.a. Mark Twain, something interesting was found that a lot of readers did not see at first but after a while it's clear. These two works of literature are interesting because each of them hold a unique character that actually makes the story itself better. In, "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn", Jim seems to share something with Injun Joe in "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer". They share many similarities and as a reader reads deeper into the book and thinks critically about each of their situations, he can notice them and almost instantly see the connections. The one and very important thing that everyone must know about these two individual persons is that none of them are white! This plays a very important role because first of all during these times of writing the main focus was usually on a white character and yes it is true in this book but Injun Joe and Jim are probably seen as the main focus in readers eyes. Now Jim has a longer part in "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" and it makes the reader understand the character a little better. Jim is a black slave who is sick and tired of being treated like an animal and not a human. Just like Joe, he runs away to an unknown location so that he'll be alone. And just like Joe he runs into a little trouble. Jim throughout this whole story is seen as an all around good guy and don't get this wrong because he is. Joe and Jim are similar in many ways and the first is that the people see them either as trash or "beneath white". The reason for this accusation is simply the fact that they are not white. Race plays a great deal in both of these stories because when Mark Twain wrote these stories they was a lot of racism going around and he wanted the message "Colored people are human too!" out to those young minds. The word "Injun" really affects Joe by the fact that he seems to be proud to carry out this title. An example of this is when he is about to kill Dr. Robinson he says, "That Injun blood isn't in me for anything...!" As one can see, he accepts the fact that he is an evil, hateful person and feels practically fine with it.
