In the harsh real world of nature, we must compete to fulfill our needs in order to survive. The harshness of nature has driven mankind to rise above the rest of creation in order to ensure our survival. Times have changed, and our role in nature has changed as well.

Nature and its creations remain a fact of every day of our lives. Even with all of our wisdom and technology, we cannot deny the influence of nature upon us. The rules of nature continue to exist and we are not exempted from them. We need to eat food, we need to drink water, and we need breathe clean air. The weather still affects us. We do not control when it rains or when it is sunny. We are devastated by natural disasters and shortages of food exist throughout our species. We participate in interspecific competition within our own species in a quest for success in society, as we compete intraspecifically with other species, from the bears that eat our flesh to the locusts that eat our food, in a quest for survival in nature.
